MN Tax Credit

The State Housing Tax Credit Program and Contribution Fund is a great way to help finance affordable housing in the state of Minnesota. If you or your business will owe more than $1000 in MN state taxes, you can donate to our current project and receive a tax credit for 85% of your donation to be filed with your next tax return.

For example, if you need to pay in $1,700 on your Minnesota state income taxes as a business or an individual, you can donate $2,000 to our current project. You will receive a certificate for a $1,700 tax credit and we will receive a $2,000 donation! This is a win-win situation, and we encourage you to take advantage of it!

You can donate any amount between $1,000 and $2 million. The program opens near the beginning of the year and the tax credits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The available funds go FAST, and last year they were all claimed within six weeks, so don't delay!

2026 Projects

In 2026 we will have two projects available for contributions: House 26 and School Build House 27.

House #26 will be built on the west side of Little Falls with a single mother of four children. One of her children is disabled, and they are currently cramped into a too-small trailer house with issues of mold and inadequate heating.

House #27 will be built across from the Little Falls High School with a single mother of three children. They are currently living in a trailer house that needs major repairs to the roof and floors.

This is our first time building two homes in one year! House #27 will be built in a new partnership with the Little Falls High School, and the Carpentry Trades Class will be assisting in all aspects of the build. The students will be working and learning alongside our construction manager and volunteers and will gain valuable experience in framing, insulating, electrical, plumbing, HVAC. This experience could lead to new career choices for this next generation and also advance the trades in our community. We are excited about this opportunity to involve the students in our mission of Building Homes, Building Hope, and Building Community!

When you apply through SHTC, you can choose to contribute to "House 26" or "School Build House 27". Both are valuable projects and your donation will help provide deserving families the life-changing opportunity of owning their own home.
